@Graciel.la (Vic. Catalonia): Thanks, I can't remember what the hole was for. I will ask my husband if he remembers I will edit this. There were holes in the foundation of the hacienda along the front where there was a large staircase and walkway. I asked my husband and he remembered it is part of a drainage system for the hacienda. This is a hole in the wall of the cistern to store water from the hacienda that was then used to water stock. All the rain water from the grounds is drained into the cistern. What the hole is for though is a mystery. Maybe they are for overflow.

@Steve Rice: Thanks. It isn't really a drain but a hole in a wall. There were several of them. I asked my husband and he remembered it is part of a drainage system for the hacienda. It is a cistern under the main entrance walkway to store rain water from the hacienda grounds. The water was then used to water stock. I have no idea what the purpose of the hole is. Maybe it is an overflow.
